Understanding Stem Cell Controversies: An Intensive Course on Regulatory & Socio-ethical Issues

The Canadian Stem Cell Network has developed, with the leadership of Dr Knoppers and Isasi from McGill University, the course entitled  "Understanding Stem Cell Controversies: An Intensive Course on Regulatory & Socio-ethical Issues".

This course will be held in Calgary March 2-4, 2011 and is aimed at providing the community with strong understanding of stem cell research and ethical, legal and social issues associated with it.

Topics covered will include stem cell science 101, stem cell ethics, stem cell policy, stem cells & the patient community, Stem cells & the media, and commercialization of stem cell research.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in furthering their knowledge in stem cell research and in understanding the regulatory and socio-ethical issues raised by this field of research. In particular, the course content was developed for scientists, clinicians, bioethicists, health charities representatives, patient advocates, members of REB’s, policy makers, and industry. Limited to 40 participants for maximum interaction.

Registration fee: $100 for students (graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research associates), $150 for academics (PIs, REB’s), governmentt officials and not-for-profit, $300 for industry. Includes breakfasts and lunches, one group dinner and an evening at the Glenbow Museum.
