Since March 2010, the Public Policy Forum (PPF) has been bringing together a diverse group of public servants from federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments across the country in a year-long, action-research program. Through a combination of seminars, online discussions, and pilot projects, the PPF has been leading a national discussion on capacity-building in public engagement.
The project will terminate in the publication of Me and My Government, an introduction to public engagement and a sustained argument for the increased use of it by governments. The book will be released in the fall of 2011.
The Public Engagement Project is led by PPF's Vice President of Engagement, Don Lenihan. Please check out his most recent blog on the engagement community website. In it, Don considers whether there is a way to check the hyper-partisan political rhetoric that seems to be breaking out everywhere.
You can also find Don's new article, on which the blog is based, titled When the Policy Process Goes Public: Think Tanks in the Age of Complexity. It has just been published in the March issue of Policy Options.
The Public Policy Forum encourages you to visit The Public Engagement Project website to learn about the work they have been doing in the area of public engagement. You can also learn more about Public Engagement by attending the daylong seminar, "Public Engagement in a Multi-Stakeholder World". Click here for full details.
