THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION (IAP2) CERTIFICATE IN PUBLIC PARTICIPATION (3 MODULES, 5 DAYS)
The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Certificate Program is a three module program intended to provide a broad-based learning experience covering all of the foundations of public participation. Developed in consultation with practitioners from around the world, the training provides useful tools for designing and implementing effective public participation programs. Students will receive credit from IAP2 for completing each module. Upon completion of all three modules, students will be awarded an IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation.
Module 1: Planning for Effective Public Participation (2 days)
January 23-24, 2012
In this introductory module, you will learn the foundations of public participation, the importance of setting clear objectives, of delivering on a promise to the public, and how to determine the appropriate level of public participation. A rigorous step-by-step approach will be outlined along with the IAP2 Core Values and Code of Ethics.
Module 2: Communication for Effective Public Participation (1 day)

Now that you have the basics of public participation, you will learn about communication skills needed as a public participation practitioner, including an exploration of how to clearly communicate complex information, develop key messages, and increase abilities to engage participants in emotional and risky issues.
Module 3: Techniques for Effective Public Participation (2 days)
January 26-27, 2012
This interactive module will give you an opportunity to learn about and practice a wide range of different techniques and practical tools that have been tested and used by public practitioners around the world.
